Project focus
This site explores how Colorado’s changing population, current utilization patterns, and regional differences can be combined to project future demand for mental health services. The goal is to give communities, providers, and policymakers a clear, evidence-based view of where need is likely to grow so planning and investment can keep pace. The work brings together population projections, cleaned claims-based indicators of low-value care, and a set of transparent models of baselines to neural network help highlight emerging pressure points by region, payer, and service type.
Why this work
As a Program Director at the Colorado Behavioral Healthcare Council, and a graduate student in a data science master’s program, this project is a way to put advanced analytics to work for public policy in community behavioral health. The focus is to turn complex data into understandable signals that help guide real-world decisions on capacity development, services prioritization, and targeted resources for the greatest impact.
